SDS TEACHING FACULTY
Shannon Maree Hart
Principal/Owner Operator
SDS Senior Teacher
Shannon began dancing at the age of 7 with Ms Yvonne at Yvonne Macedone Fun School of Dance in Griffith NSW. This is were her love of dance began! Then at the age of 9, after being spotted at a local drama holiday camp being held by a Sydney Group and advised to pursue professional dance training , the weekly trips to Leeton began.
Training under the guidance of Di-Salvatore Dance Academy in Leeton Shannon studied jazz, hip hop, tap, contemporary, lyrical, musical theatre, pointe and national character. At the age of 13 she began teaching and quickly found a passion for choreography that later became her career.
In 1994 Shannon moved to Sydney to pursue her love of dance auditioning and attending Brent St School of performing arts full time course.
After completing her course successfully Shannon went on to have a long career teaching, choreographing and performing around Sydney until 2005 when she moved to Kuwait to become the head of dance faculty for the British Academy of International Arts (BAIA). Shannon held this position for 3 years and successfully grew the dance faculty from
30 to 360 students during this time.
In 2010 Shannon moved back to Sydney and after teaching for numerous studios around Sydney she ended up working for Australia's largest dance competition "Showcase", travelling all across Australia and New Zealand finding a
passion for adjudicating.
From June 2012 till July 2013 Shannon went back to study and completed her Certificate 3 in Fitness and Certificate 4 in Personal Training at Randwick Tafe Campus. Shannon used this course to understand anatomy, strength and development better to add to her dance teacher knowledge.
In August of 2013 Shannon decided to take some time off after having her precious daughter Alani and in 2014 was very excited to be starting her own dance studio, SDS Griffith, back in her home town.
Within 4 short years SDS Griffith grew so much that in 2018 Shannon had to relocate from the single room CWA hall to their brand new built studio's at 13 Altin St, Griffith. Following her dreams Shannon designed and developed the two dance studios inside the Indoor Sports Centre with assistance from Peter Piccolo.
As a life long learner with a want to stay on top of dance education in 2019 Shannon completed her Certificate 4 in Dance Teaching and Management to refresh her certification she received at Brent Street School of performing Arts. Shannon feels that as the industry is constantly evolving and as more is known about physiology and anatomy it is the dance teachers duty to stay educated to ensure students receive the benefits of their experience and knowledge.
In 2018 Shannon started focusing on her love of adjudicating. Shannon feels its a honor a privilege to be able to offer guidance to the next generation of dancers. Shannon prides herself on providing full constructive critics to the performers with much care given to the attention to detail. Shannon has adjudicated for EBSDN (regular judge for Jenny Jones), Front and Centre, Royale and KAR.
With 39 years experience in the dance industry as a student, professional dancer, teacher, guest teacher, choreographer, adjudicator and studio owner Shannon is always looking for ways to continue to educate and open doors for the next generation of dancers offering a city studio experience for our regional kids.

Ashley Bourke-Sands
SDS Senior Teacher
Ashley's dance journey began at age 8 under the guidance of Elizabeth Poulson at La Vive Classique Dance School in Port Macquarie. This is where I first fell in love with dance, sparking a lifelong passion that would shape my future.
By 14, she was assisting with three classes weekly, helping teachers with choreography and technique. At 15, Ashely was fortunate to study under her mentor, Jeffrey McCormack, who traveled from Newcastle to Port Macquarie every Friday to coach a select group of dedicated students.
Ashley's studies covered Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, and National Character dance styles, but her true passion lies in Contemporary and Lyrical.
Over the years, Ashley completed all RAD Ballet exams from Grade 3 to Advanced 1 with Distinctions.
At 17, Ashley moved to Port Macquarie Performing Arts, where she completed her Advanced 1 and partially completed Advanced 2 BBO Ballet exams. After graduating, Ahsley was accepted into both Brent Street and Ev & Bow.
Throughout Ashley's development she attended numerous workshops, learning from esteemed artists like Lily Gonscak, Darren McIntyre, Heath Keating, Matt Lee, Lucinda Dunn, Brendan Bradshaw, Peter Gill, and Tim O'Donnell.
During high school, Ashley led the dance unit at St. Joseph's Regional College and Newman Senior Technical College, where we performed at local school eisteddfods. By Year 12, that program had grown to over 30 students, and all rehearsals were held during lunch breaks.
In 2012, Ashley completed her Certificate I & II in Dance and Certificate III in Sport & Recreation while finishing her HSC.
In 2013, Ashley and her family relocated to Parkes, NSW, where she soon became the Head Choreographer for a local dance school’s performance team.
In January 2014, Ashely welcomed my first child, Hunter, and soon after returned to work as Head Teacher at Twinkle Toes Dance Studio in Parkes. In just one year Ashley grew the school from 40 to over 150 students, becoming the largest dance school in the area, with successful performance teams across all age groups. During this time Ashley also completed her Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management through ATOD, immersing herself in the ATOD syllabus.
In 2016, Ashley and her family moved to Griffith to be closer to family and she took a couple of years off to explore a different career path. Ashley welcomed her second son in July 2018, but always stayed connected to the dance world, attending eisteddfods and concerts, and returning to Parkes to run workshops.
In 2024, Ahsley is thrilled to embark on a new chapter with SDS, sharing her passion, experience, and dedication to the art of dance with the next generation of dancers in the Riverina.
